Upanayanam

This function is done for the male child when he attains the correct age where he is ready to study all the Vedas, perform every day. It is the process of wearing the sacred white thread.

The main rituals performed during this function are Brahmopadesam and Yagnopavidam. The ceremony is conducted as per their corresponding family Vedas namely Yajur, Rig, Adarvana or Sama and the guru of that particular Veda will perform the entire ceremony as per that vedic standard and its mantras.

When is Upanayanam Performed?

When the male child attains the age of 8 years this ceremony is performed by fixing a Muhurth based on the birth nakshatra of the boy.
